About this calculator

Zakat is one of the five pillars of Islam: an annual charitable obligation of 2.5% on eligible wealth held for one lunar year that exceeds the nisab, the minimum threshold. This calculator helps you total your assets and estimate the amount due.

How it works

Net wealth = cash + gold + silver + investments + business assets − debts due
Zakat = 2.5% × net wealth, if net wealth ≥ nisab

Nisab: the nisab is commonly set at the value of 87.48 g of gold or 612.36 g of silver. Silver gives a lower threshold and is used by many scholars for the benefit of the poor, while others use gold. Enter the current value of your chosen standard in your own currency, because market prices change daily and this site does not hard-code them.

How to read your result

Do not include your home, personal vehicle, everyday household goods or items for personal use. Include what is owned for a full lunar year, including gold and silver jewellery according to the view of your school of thought. Many scholars allow deducting debts that are due within the year.

Worked example

Cash 800,000, gold worth 400,000, investments 300,000, debts 100,000 and a nisab of 650,000 (same currency).

Frequently asked questions

How much Zakat do I pay?

2.5% of your net zakatable wealth if it is at or above the nisab and has been held for one lunar year.

Both are used by scholars. The silver standard gives a lower threshold. Choose according to the guidance you follow and enter its current value.

Is Zakat due on jewellery?

Scholars differ: some exempt jewellery worn regularly, while others (such as the Hanafi school) include it. Consult a scholar.

Are retirement funds zakatable?

Rulings differ by the type of fund and whether funds are accessible. Seek scholarly advice.

Can I pay Zakat in instalments?

Many scholars allow early payment during the year. Ask a scholar about your circumstances.
